In keeping with the Ontario Provincial Government directive today regarding the closing of all non-essential businesses, all onsite client work is suspended until further notice.
In addition to suspending all onsite client work, we will also stop producing and shipping our various safety, wellness and anti-bullying posters. We will be able to continue with our reader donations and eBook orders.
Over the next coming weeks and months we will do our best to provide our readers with new articles to help maintain a small sense of normalcy during these challenging times. Since I will not be venturing out to capture any new photographs for the foreseeable future, I will also try to think of subject matter that many of us can photograph in our own homes.
Above all else, we hope that everyone does their part to keep themselves and their loved ones safe, as well as the community in which they live.
Many countries in the world have been experiencing rapid COVID-19 infection rates. The most effective method that each of us has, to do our part to stop the COVID-19 virus, is to diligently practice physical distancing. Only go out when absolutely necessary and keep 2 metres (~6 feet) away from other people. Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds. My wife shared a suggestion that she viewed today… wash your hands as if you had just chopped up some jalapeno peppers… and you now need to put contact lenses in your eyes.
Please keep in mind that COVID-19 infection rates can double every 2 days. This has been the case in a number of countries. If you would like to view how various countries have been managing COVID-19 you can use this link.
Based on a 2-day infection doubling rate, one infected person’s irresponsible actions, compounded by irresponsible people around them, can result in over 1,000,000 infections in less than 45 days. All stemming from that one, initial irresponsible individual. Even with only a 1% mortality rate that could mean the deaths of 10,000 people. Some of them could be your loved ones, friends and associates. Maybe even you.
Canada was doing a pretty good job keeping the domestic COVID-19 infection rate under reasonable control. The first COVID-19 infection was identified in Canada on January 25, 2020. As of 11AM EST time March 23 a total of 102,803 COVID-19 tests have been administered in Canada with 1,512 individuals testing positive.
Over the past week almost one million Canadians have returned home from outside of the country. Many of these citizens are returning from our spring school break. Some are ‘snowbirds’ who are returning after spending a couple of months or more in other countries escaping the Canadian winter. All people returning to Canada have been instructed to not stop anywhere, and to go immediately to their homes, and into quarantine for a period of 14 days.
It is likely that a number of these returning citizens will bring new COVID-19 infections with them into Canada. This will cause an immediate spike in our number of COVID-19 cases. How significant this becomes in large part will depend on individuals in Canada being responsible with their behaviours in terms of immediately self-isolating after returning from trips for 14 days.
Regardless of the misinformation that you may have read or watched, this is not “just another flu”. COVID-19 has a higher mortality rate and spreads more insidiously. Currently there is no medication or vaccine to combat it. Please do your part to limit the spread of this virus and encourage others to do the same.
