Comparison of Shooting 1 Nikon 10-100mm lenses at f/16

I was out this afternoon doing a bit of field work for my upcoming review of the 1 Nikon 10-100 mm f/4-5.6 zoom lens. I was close to finishing up for the day at Dufferin Islands and came upon some small water features that I thought may have some promise as ‘smooth water’ subjects. I had neglected to bring any variable neutral density filters with me, and since I had left my tripod in the car I thought I’d use the opportunity to do a bit of an experiment. I had my 1 Nikon 10-100 mm f/4.5-5.6 PD zoom with me, along with the 10-100 mm f/4-5.6 review sample that Nikon Canada had arranged. Shooting 1 Nikon 10-100 mm lenses at f/16 is something I hadn’t purposely tried before so I thought I’d give it a whirl. Continue reading Comparison of Shooting 1 Nikon 10-100mm lenses at f/16

Angles and alignment in landscape photography

Lakeside park in fog

After spending the morning doing some landscape photography in the Niagara area I hit some dense fog on my way home. Shooting landscape photos under foggy conditions is one of my favourite things to do so I couldn’t resist getting off the highway and finding a good spot to capture some images. I ended up at Charles Daley Park which is located on Lake Ontario in the town of Lincoln. What follows is a selection of images of this lakeside park in fog. Continue reading Lakeside park in fog

Diffraction

We may find this confusing because from a composition standpoint we often want to achieve deep depth-of-field, especially with landscape photography. Stopping a lens down to achieve this degree of depth-of-field seems quite logical.

This begs the question whether we really need to care about diffraction. Continue reading Diffraction
