Scooters in Italy seem as plentiful as pigeons when travelling in cities. This article shares a selection of scooter images captured while on a bus tour of Italy in 2019.

As is the case in many warmer climates, scooters in Italy represent a cost affordable way to get around in metropolitan areas.

On many city streets it feels like one is observing a perpetual scooter rally.

Scooters in Italy are everywhere, and in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. Their owners run the gamut of humankind.

I’ve always loved photographing all things mechanical and enjoy incorporating these kinds of subjects in compositions.

Groups of scooters in odd numbers, or single machines, usually make the best compositions.

I always stay alert during street walking tours as chance encounters can be captured quickly as one is strolling by.

Shiny, new machines as well as older, weathered ones catch my eye.

Some owners take obvious pride in their scooters, equipping them with convertible tops and side panels. As is often the case, I’m drawn to photographing details that intrigue me as you can see from the following images.

While not in abundance, I did come across the occasional motorcycle and couldn’t resist capturing a couple of quick photographs.

When on vacation, or on a photographic field trip, I find keeping my mind open to a wide range of subject matter can often lead to an interesting grouping of images captured in different locations.

Technical Note

Photographs were captured hand-held using camera gear as noted in the EXIF data. Images were produced from RAW files using my standard process. Crops are noted where appropriate.
