Yesterday my wife and I packed a picnic lunch and headed off to take a stroll in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The town is the home of the Shaw Festival and many people who enjoy live theatre visit during the season.
Other people enjoy the numerous bed and breakfast properties and the boutique hotels, as well as the many dining establishments.
The town also offers a very eclectic shopping experience with many unique retail shops.
Photographers will find a wide range of subject matter. The architecture is certainly one of the facets of the old town area that attracts many photographers.
During the late spring through early fall the old town is awash in beautiful colours from the extensive flower gardens.
Various areas of the old town are under development and the town posts notices about the nature of the development.
These notices are accompanied by period photographs of the original buildings and can make for quite interesting viewing.
Given the numerous gardens and wide array of plants, opportunities for flower photography abound. From traditional style images like the one above.
To ones that focus on leaf patterns and shapes. If you bring some extension tubes or have a zoom lens with a short minimum focusing distance some macro-type images are possible as you’ll see in the next three images.
Whenever I’m out with my wife and have a camera with me she has come to expect me to take a few ‘weird images’ as she fondly calls them. Actually she’s getting quite good at spotting things before I do, like the image below.
Here are a few more things that caught my eye during our stroll through the old town…
Given the wide variety of image opportunities in Niagara-on-the-Lake some of my photography coaching clients enjoy using this as a photography destination especially during the summer months.
