This article features a selection of handheld images of ducks captured with the M.Zuiko PRO 40-150 mm f/2.8 zoom and MC-20 teleconverter. As noted in a previous article, I was not initially planning to do any bird photography on this particular day, and left my M.Zuiko 100-400 mm f/5-6.3 IS at home.

Technique and Shot Discipline

This article shares some new images of ducks in flight and discusses technique and shot discipline. Unlike many of my photography field sessions that are focused on practicing a specific technique, my recent outing was to practice my shot discipline. This type of practice session always yields significantly more keepers than I can possibly use, and I ended up deleting many hundreds of perfectly useable files.

Best Photography Problem

I went out on Saturday to challenge myself photographing ducks in flight… and I ended up with the best photography problem. Over the past number of years I’ve done this particular ducks in flight test a number of times with different camera gear. It involves situating myself fairly close to a large group of ducks, then photographing individual ducks as they take flight, moving right to left in my viewfinder.
