Using V3 Flash to Photograph Hummingbirds
While visiting the Saanich Peninsula in British Columbia I recently had the opportunity to experiment using the Nikon 1 V3 flash to photograph hummingbirds. The lighting at the location was quite poor, with the hummingbirds frequenting two feeders both of which were positioned under a permanent canopy. I was unable to get a decent exposure even when using ISO-6400. Rather than simply give up on the opportunity I decided to try using the built-in flash on the Nikon 1 V3 to photograph hummingbirds. Nikon 1 J5 at high ISO
Without question photographers who depend on excellent low light performance from their gear are best served by full frame cameras. Many of us mainly shoot under good lighting conditions and we only periodically challenge our cameras by shooting in low light situations. I recently purchased a Nikon 1 J5 and wanted to put it to the test. So, earlier today I went out to Bird Kingdom to try my Nikon 1 J5 shooting at high ISO. Continue reading Nikon 1 J5 at high ISO

Rhythmic Motion and Frame Rate
As human being we often fall prey to being creatures of habit. I’ve certainly found this to be the case when I’ve gone out to photograph birds in flight. I invariably set my Nikon 1 V2 to the typical settings I use, which includes using AF-C at 15 fps. Until recently I never really thought about the interrelationship between the rhythmic motion of a subject and frame rate. Continue reading Rhythmic Motion and Frame Rate
