Competition That Matters
As photographers many of us continually strive to reach more of our potential and miss a key point of life… there is only one competition that matters. It isn’t comparing ourselves to others. Or subjecting our work to the scrutiny of judged events. Or waiting with baited breath hoping for accolades to be bestowed upon us. Or counting the number of ‘likes’ that our work generates.
The only competition that matters in life is competing with our own best self. And, not just with our photography, but with everything that we do.
Spring Birding Season
Like many area photographers I’m chomping at the bit for the arrival of spring birding season in Southern Ontario. The last week or so has seen the arrival of a number of migratory species so things are beginning to heat up which has fueled my optimism.
Bufflehead In Flight ISO-6400
This article features 15 consecutive images of a bufflehead in flight captured handheld with an E-M1X using Pro Capture H at ISO-6400. I captured these images on a practice day that I had designated as “Pro Capture H day”. All of the photographs from that outing were created using Pro Capture H at 60 frames-per-second, and utilizing a single auto-focus point.
Cardinal Leaping
This article features twelve handheld photographs of a cardinal leaping… all of which were created with an E-M1X using Pro Capture H at 60 frames-per-second. Many of us who enjoy bird photography concentrate on birds-in-flight. We sometimes forget that small birds frequently leap between branches. These images can be interesting captures, especially if the bird’s wings are at least somewhat extended.
Merganser Courtship Display
This article features 15 consecutive handheld Pro Capture H images of a merganser courtship display, captured during a recent visit to LaSalle Park. Fortunately I had already set a practice session objective for myself that day which was to photograph everything using Pro Capture H… so I was ready for this opportunity.

OM-1 Upgrade Decision
