American Goldfinch
Late August through to mid September is one of the best times in Southern Ontario to photograph the American goldfinch. Our backyard has quite a few plantings of Echinacea, commonly called coneflowers. As a photographer I look forward to these flowers wilting and drying up. Why? American goldfinch like to eat the seeds from these flower heads… thus creating some good opportunities to photograph these skittish, quick birds.
Backyard Sparrows
This article features a selection of images of backyard sparrows that I photographed a couple of days ago. F/13 High ISO Test
This article shares a series of f/13 high ISO test images captured handheld with Olympus camera gear.
Like many other photographers I’ve been investigating the recently announced M.Zuiko 100-400 mm f/5-6.3 IS super telephoto zoom lens. The fact that this lens will accept M.Zuiko MC-14 and MC-20 teleconverters really appeals to me, since I own the 2X version. Using it with the 100-400 zoom would mean shooting at high ISO values with an aperture of f/13 at least some of the time.
Small Moments
We can seldom predict what will happen when we are out with a camera, and sometimes it’s the small moments that can make our day. This article shares a collection of photographs that were captured during a recent morning visit to Hendrie Valley and the Urquhart Butterfly Garden.
MC-20 Teleconverter with Flash
This article features some images captured at Bird Kingdom using the MC-20 teleconverter with flash. These photographs are from my archives.

Pompeii Patterns and Details
During our trip to Italy last year I had the opportunity to capture some images of Pompeii patterns and details during our walking tour of the archaeological site.
Olympus 100-400 Reviews
The newly announced Olympus 100-400 mm f/5-6.3 super telephoto zoom lens is of significant interest to a number photographers who use the M4/3 camera format, and specifically Olympus camera gear.

Morning Garden Photography
This article features some early morning garden photography captured handheld during a light, misty rain. Early morning is one of the best times of the day to create images of flowers as we have soft light with which to work.
